Mall blaze turns clothing showroom to ashes, losses estimated in millions

A massive fire broke out at Rare Rabbit, a branded clothing showroom in the mall.

The incident took place at High Street Apollo Mall, situated on AB Road in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, on January 14.

The visuals from the scene showed thick smoke billowing from the showroom, as fire brigade personnel worked to control the blaze. The showroom’s glass facade was shattered to allow the smoke to escape, enabling the fire team to enter.

According to reports, the fire is believed to have started due to a short circuit, though the exact cause is yet to be confirmed. Employees discovered the fire early in the morning during cleaning hours and promptly alerted authorities. By then, goods worth an estimated Rs 2 crore (USD 231480.40) had already been reduced to ashes.

Notably, the mall’s fire extinguishing system failed to function effectively, with only one or two units operating as expected. The Rare Rabbit showroom, which had been open for just three months, housed high-end branded clothing, including items worth Rs 30 lakh (USD 34719.83), all of which were destroyed. Firefighters brought the blaze under control after an hour of efforts, but the loss is substantial and has left the showroom operator reeling.
