Major path blocked as bridge collapses in valley of northern India
In a significant incident in northern India’s Himachal Pradesh, a major path was obstructed.
The incident took place at the Chichong bridge in Spiti Valley of Lahaul Spiti district on August 25.
Visuals showed the bridge giving way as a heavy dumper became trapped on the partially broken structure, while a bulldozer was stationed at the edge, working to clear debris. Concerned locals were seen observing the situation.
According to reports, the bridge collapse occurred as a heavy dumper was attempting to cross. Fortunately, everyone in the vehicle is safe. Lahaul Spiti MLA Anuradha Rana stated that she is in constant communication with the authorities regarding the situation.
Anuradha Rana also mentioned that discussions with BRO officials have taken place. The BRO team is en route to begin the process of constructing a new road in the area. The collapse happened when the dumper reached the center of the bridge, causing the structure to fail due to damage to its culvert.

Currently, traffic has been diverted to the Kiamo bridge.
