Major fire erupts at thermal power station in eastern India

A major fire erupted at the Kaniha plant of the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) in eastern India’s Odisha.

This incident happened in Talcher on April 6.

Visuals showed the fire wreaking havoc at the power station. The flames engulfed the sheds of the structure and a portion of it came crashing down as well as the fire continued to rage on with full intensity. As is the case with such fires, there was smoke all over the area.

According to a report, the fire broke out at around 8:10 am IST (Indian Standard Time) at the conveyor belt 15 A and B. Fire was also reported to have erupted at the coal transfer point 16 located between Unit 2 and 3 of the power station. Two teams from the Odisha Fire Services rushed to the spot and got to work as they attempted to bring the situation under control. The Fire Wing of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) also were involved in the fire fighting operations.

The NTPC subsequently issued a statement which said that on CISF personnel received minor injuries and was given first aid. There weren’t any other injuries reported and the cause of the fire is being investigated.
