Major accident in western India as bus plunges into gorge, leaving passengers critically injured

In a tragic incident in western India’s Maharashtra, a bus plunged 60-70 feet into a deep gorge, leaving several passengers in critical condition.

The incident took place in Amravati district on September 23.

Visuals showed the horrific scene as the bus lay collapsed in the gorge, with local residents coming to the aid of trapped passengers. Some individuals were seen helping others escape through the windows, while others lay unconscious in the open space nearby.

According to reports, four people lost their lives, and more than 40 passengers sustained serious injuries when the bus, carrying approximately 50-55 passengers, lost control while traveling from Amravati to Khandwa. Local residents, alongside the Chikhaldara Police, promptly rushed the injured to hospitals in Paratwada and Amravati. Authorities remain concerned that the death toll could rise.

“The rescue operation was swift, but the number of critical injuries raises concerns,” a police spokesperson stated. Emergency teams continue their efforts at the accident site while investigations into the cause of the crash are underway.
