Major accident averted as retaining wall collapses at a pump house in southern India
In a significant incident in southern India’s Telangana, a major accident was averted when a retaining wall collapsed at the Sunkishala Pump House under construction at Nagarjuna Sagar.
The incident took place in Sunkishala Pump House near Peddavoora Mandal of Nalgonda district on August 1.
Visuals showed the collapse of the wall causing thick clouds of dust to form in the atmosphere, creating a distressing situation for the workers. The retaining wall, built to prevent water from entering the tunnel, suddenly collapsed under pressure from a recent heavy flood at Nagarjuna Sagar.
According to reports, the Sunkishala Pump House is being constructed to move black water from Nagarjuna Sagar Storage to meet the drinking water needs of Hyderabad. More than a hundred workers are involved in the construction, working in three shifts per day. At the time of the incident, workers were changing shifts, which prevented a fatal accident.
