Lorry skids off icy road into valley as driver escapes unhurt

A small lorry skidded off a snow-covered road and plunged into the Solang Valley.

The incident occurred in Manali, Himachal Pradesh, on December 27.

The visual shows, the lorry beginning to slide on the icy road amidst heavy snowfall in the town. The driver quickly leaps out of the moving vehicle, narrowly avoiding a tragic fall. He initially attempts to halt the lorry but is also seen slipping on the treacherous road. Within seconds, the lorry tumbles into the valley.

According to reports, approximately 1,200 vehicles were stranded between the Atal Tunnel and Solang Valley due to heavy snowfall. Traffic remained gridlocked in the area until 11 pm, with vehicles struggling to navigate the snow-covered roads. In addition, 150 tourists became stranded in Maling Nala, near the Tibet border occupied by China. These tourists were en route to Kaza in Lahaul Spiti but were trapped at the border of Kinnaur and Lahaul Spiti due to the accumulation of snow in the surrounding mountains.

 

Himachal Pradesh Police successfully rescued all the stranded tourists, providing them with shelter in homes and hotels within the villages of Yangthang, Nako, and Chango.
