Local artist creates eco-friendly Ganesh idol using ice cream sticks in eastern India, promotes environmental awareness

The incident took place at Gopinathpur Hat Bazar, Jatani, Khordha district on September 6.
Visuals showed the artist was sitting at home, displaying a Ganesh idol crafted from ice cream sticks inside a bottle. He was explaining the process of how he made the idol. The Ganesh idol was quite charming, small, and environmentally friendly. The intricate details and use of sustainable materials highlighted both the artist’s skill and his commitment to eco-conscious artistry. The idol’s compact size and careful craftsmanship showcased its beauty and elegance, making it a notable example of creative and environmentally responsible art.
Every year, Ishwar Rao brings his artistic talents to life in unique and eco-conscious ways. This year, he has crafted a 5-inch Ganesh idol using ice cream sticks, silver paper, and cotton, all placed within a 750 ml bottle. The piece took Rao 10 days to complete, showcasing both his skill and dedication to promoting sustainable celebrations.
In addition to the Ganesh idol, Rao created a 1-inch miniature tree from wood to complement his creation. Through this artwork, he sends his best wishes to all celebrating Ganesh Puja and emphasizes the importance of using clay idols for worship. “By using eco-friendly materials, we can protect the environment and ensure a greener future,” Rao stated, urging both pandals and households to opt for sustainable choices during festivities.
As the festival approaches, Rao’s artistic message encourages devotees to be mindful of their environmental impact, advocating for a shift away from non-biodegradable idols that harm the planet.
