At around 11 AM on Saturday, the leopard entered the meter testing room of the MSEDCL office. Senior technician Shanta Shelke, who witnessed the wild cat’s entrance, remained composed and managed to exit the room calmly. Shelke’s quick thinking to promptly close the door and contain the animal has been lauded by her colleagues.

The unexpected visitor caused considerable panic in the vicinity. Forest department officials were summoned immediately and successfully rescued the leopard after some time.

This incident is part of a concerning trend of increased leopard sightings in the Pune area. On the same Saturday, a leopard was captured on video crossing a road in Dive Ghat, narrowly avoiding two-wheeler riders.

In another recent sighting, a leopard was spotted in Katraj Ghat on Sunday. Two individuals travelling in a car near Aaryans World School in Bhilarewadi filmed the leopard as it sat in the bushes, moving away only when the car’s headlights illuminated it. This sighting has instilled fear among residents in Katraj Ghat and neighboring areas like Gujar-Nimbalkarwadi, Mangdewadi, and Bhilarewadi.

As leopard encounters become more frequent, local authorities and residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any sightings to the forest department immediately.
