Leopard leaps into home near historic fort, triggering panic among residents
A leopard was spotted roaming outside a house near the historic fort, prompting immediate action from local forest authorities to capture the animal.
The incident occurred near the historic Udgir Fort in Latur district, Maharashtra, on November 29.
The visual shows the leopard leaping from the wall into the house. Afterward, it roamed around for a while before heading upstairs.
According to reports, a forest official confirmed that the leopard’s presence was first noticed at around 5:20 AM when it was captured on CCTV outside the house. Following the sighting, the forest department took measures to ensure the safety of residents and capture the animals.
V.B. Tambe, Assistant Conservator of Forests, said, “Forest personnel have been deployed throughout Udgir town, and we have advised residents to remain vigilant. We urge people to avoid staying overnight in fields and ensure that children do not venture out alone.”
Authorities have instructed locals to alert the authorities immediately if the leopard is seen but have advised against chasing the animal. In response to the situation, both the forest and police departments have mobilized patrol teams. A team consisting of a Range Forest Officer (RFO), three rangers, six forest guards, and 20 watchmen have been dispatched to the area. A hunt is currently underway with the assistance of drone cameras to track the animal’s movements, the official added. Forest officials are working swiftly to ensure public safety while containing the leopard.
