Leopard captured by forest department personnel after weeks of fear in southern India

In a late-night operation in southern India’s Karnataka, forest department officials successfully captured a leopard that had been roaming an industrial area, spreading fear among locals and IT employees.

The incident took place in Electronic City industrial area of Bengaluru city on September 25.


Visuals showed the leopard captured in a cage, lying still inside it. Forest department personnel were seen gathered around in a forest-like area surrounding the van that held the cage, with the early morning sunlight casting a soft glow as they monitored the leopard’s condition.Speaking to Newslions, Bengaluru Rural Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCF) Ravindra Kumar N. stated that three cages were placed at different spots across Electronic City, and the leopard was finally trapped near the helipad, an isolated spot where it had been seen frequently. Once captured, the leopard underwent a medical examination and was relocated to a forest near Mysuru.

Reportedly, The forest department had been tracking the leopard for days after it was first spotted near the Electronic City toll plaza. Surveillance cameras were set up, and traps were laid in isolated areas. The leopard’s presence had caused panic among residents and employees working in the area.
