Leopard attacks dozen villagers, sparking panic while forest department intensifies search
A leopard has been on a spree, injuring dozens of villagers, including two students and three forest employees, as the forest department steps up its efforts to capture it.
The incident took place in Jasmai village in Farrukhabad district of Uttar Pradesh, northern India on December 9.
Visuals show the leopard running swiftly and aggressively through the fields, moving between different areas of the village in broad daylight. Another set of visuals reveals a man, visibly injured by the leopard, being assisted into a car with his clothes torn and showing signs of distress from the attack.
According to reports, the leopard, still at large, was first spotted in fields near the village around 8:30 am. “It attacked two students on their way to school before moving to the Madna area, where it injured four more people near Raj Singh Fauji’s home,” said a police officer. As villagers surrounded it, the leopard fled into the fields near Noorpur, disappearing.
Forest department workers, with the help of locals, attempted to capture the animal, but the leopard attacked three forest workers. A group of villagers rushed to assist the injured. Local authorities, including police and the sub-divisional magistrate, arrived as the leopard continued its rampage. “A large crowd of concerned villagers has gathered. The leopard is feared to enter populated areas, and efforts to trap it are ongoing,” said the officer.
