Large stones fall off mountain on highway in northern India
Stones rained down from a mountain on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in northern India’s Jammu and Kashmir.
The incident is reported to have happened near the T5 tunnel in Panthyal area of Ramban district on April 2.
Visuals showed the stones falling off the mountain and onto the highway where a lot of vehicles were present. A big boulder was seen rolling over and approaching the vehicles. People expectedly panicked as this happened. The small and big stones collapsed off the mountain causing a cloud of dust beneath. According to a report, the traffic was stopped on both sides of the tunnel after this incident. Fortunately, the people on this highway had a narrow escape as no one was injured.
The authorities arrived for restoration work after they got information about this. Ramban’s deputy commissioner also wrote to the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) for conducting a technical assessment of this incident.
