Landslide shuts down main road in northern India

A landslide early this morning caused the closure of an important road in northern India’s Jammu and Kashmir, disrupting connectivity.

The incident took place at the Rajouri-Kotranka road in the Rajouri district on September 4.

Visuals showed a severe landslide was occurring on a mountain road, with large amounts of debris and rocks crashing down the slope. People nearby were recording videos of the event as it unfolded. The scene was chaotic, with the earth and stones tumbling violently down the mountainside. Onlookers, along with local police, were present at the site, witnessing the powerful and dangerous movement of the land.

According to reports a landslide struck the Rajouri-Kotranka road this morning, leading to an immediate shutdown of the vital route that connects the Kotranka sub-division to the district headquarters in Rajouri, Jammu and Kashmir.

The closure has significantly impacted local transportation and movement in the area. Authorities have dispatched teams to the site, and slide clearance operations are currently underway to restore the road at the earliest.
