Landslide devastates Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine route in northern India, pilgrims feared trapped

In a tragic incident in northern India’s Jammu and Kashmir, a landslide occurred at the new track of the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine.

The incident took place in the Reasi district on September 2.

Visuals showed the debris fallen on the temple route, with iron structures severely damaged and devastated by the landslide. The path appeared completely blocked due to the fallen debris, highlighting the significant risk to life that the landslide poses.

According to reports, rescue and relief operations were swiftly launched by the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board. The landslide struck near Panchi, three kilometers ahead of Bhawan, at around 2:35 pm, and also damaged a portion of an overhead iron structure, as confirmed by officials. There are fears that more pilgrims may be trapped in the landslide. “Shooting stones and a landslide have taken place on Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine track. The Disaster Management team of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board has reached the spot,” stated the CEO of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board.
