Intense rainfall creates havoc in southern India

Southern India’s Kerala experienced relentless rainfall, leading to chaos and disruption of normal life.
The incident took place in Pantheerankavu region of Kozhikode district and the video went viral on May 22.
Visuals showed during heavy rainfall, vehicles navigated the National Highway while water cascaded onto the roadway from the adjacent flyover, posing challenges for motorists.
According to reports, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday issued an orange alert in seven districts. Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad were put under orange alert. Yellow alert was issued for the remaining seven districts — Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Kannur and Kasaragod.
Incessant rain since Wednesday evening continued on Thursday morning, inundating several low-lying areas in Ernakulam and Thrissur districts. In the Cochin city corporation limits, Infopark, Kalamassery, Vyttila, Kadavanthra, South Chittoor, MG Road and KSRTC bus stand reported severe waterlogging and damage to vehicles.
The Meteorological Department forecasts ongoing rainfall for the next three days, particularly anticipating heavy downpours in central and northern regions of Kerala.
