Inspiring! Volunteers in western India lead massive mangrove cleanup drive

The incident took place at Nerul Creek in Navi Mumbai city on August 11.
Visuals showed volunteers actively cleaning the mangroves, highlighting the collaborative effort to restore the environment. Their teamwork was evident as they meticulously cleared debris and waste, demonstrating a strong commitment to preserving the ecosystem.
According to reports, this initiative is in collaboration with the Maharashtra Forest Department, the Environment Life Foundation, Beach Please, Mazi Vasundhara, and the Vanashakti NGO. A significant cleanup drive was previously organized in the Sarsole mangrove forest on Nerul Palm Beach Road on June 16 as well. These cleanup drives are held every Sunday and have been ongoing for the past 208 weeks.
Reportedly, environmentalists have raised concerns about Thane Creek, the largest creek in Asia, which boasts rich biodiversity but faces severe threats from sewage and non-biodegradable waste. These pollutants are not only endangering the ecosystem but also affecting local fishermen’s livelihoods and contributing to flooding during the rainy season.
