Inhumanity at District Hospital in central India: ward boy throws patient off stretcher

A ward boy was caught throwing an injured patient off a stretcher in central India’s Madhya Pradesh. The patient, identified as Bhawani Sahu, had been brought in by Dial 100 police following a road accident near Ghantaghar.

The incident took place at the Damoh District Hospital on April 29.

Visuals showed the ward boy assaulting Patient Sahu twice before violently dropping him onto the floor from the stretcher. After dropping Sahu, the ward boy, along with a police constable, is seen lifting him by pulling on his pants and harshly removing the cushion underneath him.

Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) Dr. Sarojini James Back confirmed receiving the video and stated that an investigation had been initiated. “We have received reports that the patient was under the influence of alcohol,” she said. “The incident is under investigation, and appropriate action will be taken against those found guilty.”

When contacted, District Hospital Civil Surgeon Dr. Rajesh Namdev was unreachable despite multiple attempts. Meanwhile, the hospital administration has distanced itself from the media following the video’s release. The victim has reportedly lodged complaints with the Superintendent of Police (SP) and the District Collector, seeking justice for the inhumane treatment he endured.
