Indian Pariah dog joins yoga event to raise awareness in northern India
To spread awareness about the benefits of yoga, an Indian pariah dog named Jimmy performed yoga alongside the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) during their celebration of the 10th International Yoga Day in northern India’s Jammu and Kashmir.
The incident took place in Udhampur on June 21.
Visuals showed the dog giving company to the soldiers as they perform some difficult yoga asanas also trying to imitate a few along side.
According to reports, Jimmy, a stray dog trained by the 13th Battalion of the NDRF in Udhampur, has become a symbol of the universal accessibility of yoga. Parveen Singh, Assistant Commandant of the battalion, explained that involving a stray dog was a deliberate effort to show that yoga is for everyone. “If a stray dog can perform yoga with ease, then anyone can,” he said.
For the past 15 days, Jimmy has been part of the battalion’s daily yoga activities. Unlike trained dogs, who learn quickly due to their high IQ levels, Jimmy took more time to master the poses, underscoring the inclusivity and adaptability of yoga.
