The muddy ground is a stark contrast to the bright colors of the supplies, symbolizing a lifeline amidst the devastation, as people eagerly await their much-needed provisions.
The devastating floods in Bihar have affected more than 9 lakh people, submerging villages and farmlands across 16 districts. The worst-affected areas are along the embankments of the Koshi and Gandak rivers, where residents are facing severe challenges. In response, the Indian Air Force (IAF) has been deployed to support relief efforts, airdropping food packets to stranded populations in remote and inaccessible regions.
This deployment follows an aerial survey conducted by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who directed officials to expedite relief work and provide essential supplies, including food and water, to those affected. The state government has also established community kitchens to ensure immediate food availability. However, the situation remains critical in districts like Sitamarhi, Sheohar, and Darbhanga, where embankments have broken, flooding hundreds of villages.
As the Koshi and Gandak rivers continue to overflow, more areas are coming under water. Thousands have sought refuge on embankments and high grounds, struggling for basic necessities like food, water, and medicine. The government has also prioritized providing sufficient lighting, sanitation, and other essential services to people sheltering on embankments.
