Indian Air Force helicopter makes forced landing in northern India, locals rush to rescue personnel
In a dramatic incident in northern India’s Bihar, a helicopter from the Indian Air Force made a forced landing while air-dropping relief materials in flood-hit areas.
The incident took place in Naya Gaon of Muzaffarpur district on October 2.
Visuals showed a portion of the helicopter submerged in floodwaters, with locals gathering around to assist in the rescue of the four IAF personnel on board, including two officers. Rescuers were seen in boats, helping officials while also retrieving relief goods from the helicopter.
According to reports, the helicopter had taken off from the Darbhanga Air Force base before the emergency landing. After the landing, the submerged state of the aircraft raised concerns, but thanks to the pilot’s presence of mind, a major accident was averted. Pratyaya Amrit, Principal Secretary of the disaster management department, confirmed that when the engine failed, the pilot ensured a safe landing in shallow waters, away from populated areas. The personnel were promptly taken to a hospital, with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) beginning rescue operations immediately after the incident was reported. Initial rescue efforts were led by local residents.
