Incessant rain inundates metro city in southern India
Visuals showed a car partially submerged in dirty rainwater on an inundated road near a bypass.
One resident, Mr. Kiran, expressed concerns about the situation, stating that the current priority appears to be evacuation. He noted that boats have been circulating throughout the area since morning to transport people to the main gate, but no accommodations have been arranged for those displaced. Most residents, he mentioned, are seeking shelter with relatives or friends and are lacking clear information on what the next steps will be.
Additionally, overflow from Doddabommasandra Lake has caused flooding in surrounding areas, including Vidyaranyapura. Residents of Kuvempu Nagar ward and Basava Samithi Layout reported waterlogging reaching up to four feet both on the roads and in their homes throughout the night and into the morning.
On October 22, Revenue Minister Krishna Byregowda visited several rain-affected areas and commented that Doddabommasandra Lake is overflowing for the first time in over 17 years due to a cloudburst, resulting in flooding in low-lying layouts around Vidyaranyapura. He stated that he is working to expedite relief efforts from the BBMP.
