Horrendous school bus crash in southern India leaves kids severely injured
by Ekta ChaubeyIn a heart-wrenching incident in southern India’s Karnataka, a catastrophic school bus crash resulted in two student fatalities and severe injuries to several others.
The incident took place in Raichur district on September 5.
Visuals showed the bus extensively damaged, with shattered windows and scattered school bags and belongings strewn across the road. Distressed students were seen crying and screaming in pain, with some unconscious on the road amidst severe injuries and blood.
According to reports, a Loyola School bus carrying 40 students collided with a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus. The collision resulted in the deaths of two students and caused three others to lose their legs. A total of 17 students are being treated at a private hospital, while 23 others are receiving care at a hospital in Manvi Taluk. Raichur District Commissioner Nitesh K stated that KSRTC has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for the families of the deceased and Rs 3 lakh for those injured.
Traffic and Road Safety ADGP Alok Kumar explained, “The Loyola School bus changed lanes due to potholes, leading to a collision with a KSRTC bus coming from behind. The impact was severe, resulting in two student deaths and three others losing their limbs. The rising number of accidents is alarming.”
