Honor killing in northern India: brother strangles sister over relationship with Hindu boy

In a tragic case of honor killing in northern India’s Uttar Pradesh, a young Muslim man strangled his minor sister to death on a public road.

The incident took place in Nagla Shekhu village within the Inchauli police station of Meerut city area on August 7.

Visuals showed the brother over the sister’s body choking her neck to death and surrounding people standing there helpless in shock.

According to reports, the accused, identified as Haseen, was furious with his sister Amrisha for repeatedly running away with her Hindu boyfriend, Mohit. Haseen, who felt that his sister’s actions had dishonored their family, publicly strangled her while shouting that she had ruined their father’s reputation. The harrowing scene was captured on video by a bystander and has since gone viral.

Amrisha had run away from home three times to be with Mohit, which had deeply angered her brother. On the day of the incident, a heated argument between Haseen and Amrisha escalated, leading Haseen to drag her out of their house and onto the road, where he committed the fatal act. Despite a crowd of onlookers, no one intervened to stop the assault.

Haseen, who is a father of two and the eldest of eight siblings, was arrested by the police and has confessed to the crime. He justified his actions by claiming that his sister’s repeated attempts to elope had brought shame to their family and that he believed killing her was the only way to restore their honor.
