Himalayan black bear feasts on dumped garbage in hills of northern India
A Himalayan black bear was spotted rummaging through piles of dumped garbage in a hilly region in northern India’s Uttarakhand, highlighting the growing issue of human waste encroaching on wildlife habitats.
The incident took place in the Joshimath area of Chamoli district and the video went viral on November 18.
Visuals showed a Himalayan Black Bear scavenging through a heap of dumped garbage in the mountains, its weary frame highlighting its struggle. Surrounded by plastic and waste, the bear picks through scraps, a heartbreaking sight against the serene backdrop of lush hills, a stark reminder of human negligence in nature’s domain.
According to reports the Himalayan Black Bear, known for its winter hibernation, has been spotted rummaging through garbage irresponsibly dumped by humans in the mountains. Instead of conserving energy for hibernation, the bear is forced to scavenge for food among waste. This troubling behavior disrupts its natural cycle and increases the likelihood of human-bear conflict, as the bears venture closer to human settlements in search of sustenance. The lack of proper waste management not only endangers wildlife but also poses a serious risk to humans, emphasizing the urgent need for responsible garbage disposal in eco-sensitive areas.
