Heroic: Worker rescued by SDRF from debris in northern India
In a recent incident in northern India’s Uttarakhand, the SDRF team safely rescued a worker trapped in debris among falling stones
The incident took place near the Joshimath Malari bridge of Chamoli district on July 16.
Visuals showed the rescuers trying to get the worker out from the debris in the dark while it was raining. The rain was adding more problems to the rescue operation however the rescuers could be seen putting all their efforts and working dedicatedly towards the rescue of the worker.

Speaking to Newslions, SDRF Constable Vinit Vaibhav of Uttarakhand stated that the Joshimath Police Station alerted the SDRF team about two individuals trapped in debris near the Marwari bridge, requiring rescue.

Responding swiftly, the SDRF rescue team, under the leadership of Sub-Inspector Vineet Devrani, arrived at the incident site fully equipped. Upon arrival, they commenced the rescue operation and found one worker mostly buried under debris, with only their head visible.

As they worked, a section of the hill above the worker collapsed, causing stones to fall on both the worker and the rescue team. In a remarkable display of bravery, Constables Pradeep Lasyal and Shekhar Nagarkoti used a nearby JCB to halt the falling stones, ensuring the safety of all involved and successfully rescuing the trapped worker.

Following this, the team acted swiftly amidst heavy rain to remove the debris and extricated the injured worker, Dinesh, who was then sent to the hospital. The body of the second worker, Gam Bahadur, had already been recovered by the local police.

Reportedly, one worker, named Dinesh and hailing from Nepal, sustained injuries during the incident, while the other worker, Gam Bahadur, also from Nepal, tragically succumbed to the circumstances and was declared deceased.

Sub-Inspector Ashish Topwal, Additional Sub-Inspector Devendra Singh, Constable Pramod Mathpal, Constable Shekhar Nagarkoti, Constable Pradeep Lasyal, and paramedic Kamal played significant roles in this rescue operation.
