Heroic rescue of two sambar deer freed from well, returned to the wild

In a dramatic rescue operation, the forest department team successfully saved two sambar deer that had fallen into a well.

The incident occurred in Sukhda village in the Panpatha range of the Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve, Madhya Pradesh on December 9.

The visual shows two sambar deer standing in water inside the well before eventually running out and heading toward the forest.

According to reports forest department official Bas Uppal stated that they received information about the two sambars, both approximately three years old, trapped in a field well. The rescue team, equipped with a JCB excavator, broke a portion of the well’s wall to create an escape route for the animals.

Deputy Director PK Verma emphasized that the operation was carried out with utmost care to ensure the safety of the animals. “Neither ropes nor nooses were used, and the animals were not touched during the rescue process. This approach prevented any injuries,” he said. Once the passage was cleared, the sambars instinctively made their way out and ran back into the forest. The quick and efficient rescue highlights the department’s dedication to wildlife preservation and humane practices in handling such incidents.

The Panpatha buffer zone, a crucial part of the Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve, is known for its rich biodiversity. This rescue serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by wildlife in human-dominated landscapes and the importance of coexistence efforts.
