Heroic police officer rescues young man from drowning in river during swim
A police officer’s bravery saves a young man from drowning after he got stuck in the Sharda River’s muddy waters while swimming.
The incident took place in Tanakpur city of Champawat district in Uttarakhand, northern India on December 5.
Visuals show the young man being held by the police officer, visibly distressed and struggling to breathe as he was drowning. The officer helped the boy and brought him ashore, where others pulled him to safety.
According to reports, while bathing in the Sharda River, the young man became stuck in the muddy waters and started to drown, screaming for help. Hearing his cries, water police constable Ravindra Pehalwan, who was on duty near the ghat, immediately jumped into the river and rescued him. The young man and his friends expressed their gratitude to Pehalwan for his quick action.
It is noteworthy that Ravindra Pehalwan has saved hundreds of people from drowning in the Sharda River. During the Maa Purnagiri fair, many people get caught in the river’s strong current and start to drown. On such occasions, it is common for Pehalwan to carry out three to four rescues a day.
Pehalwan explained that around 2 pm, he heard the cries of a young man who had become trapped in the muddy waters of the Sharda River. Without hesitation, he jumped into the river and, after considerable effort, pulled 25-year-old Mukesh Upreti, son of Nirmal Upreti from Lohaghat district, Champawat, to safety.
