Heavy rains in northern India cause bridge collapse, stranding tourists in remote village
In the northern India’s Himachal Pradesh, heavy monsoon rains have caused a bridge to collapse, leaving many tourists stranded in the remote village of Malana.
The incident took place in Lahaul-Spiti district on August 1.
Visuals showed the broken bridge amidst the rapid flowing water.
According to reports, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings of continued heavy rainfall in the region, complicating rescue and relief efforts.
Himachal Pradesh, known for its mountainous terrain, is a popular destination for tourists seeking adventure and scenic beauty. Lahaul-Spiti is one of its most isolated and picturesque districts, famous for its rugged landscape and ancient monasteries. Malana is a small village in the Parvati Valley, known for its unique culture and history.
The heavy rains led to the collapse of a crucial bridge, cutting off access to Malana and other areas. Many tourists visiting Malana are now stranded due to the collapsed bridge. Local authorities are working to provide aid to the stranded individuals and restore connectivity as quickly as possible.

The IMD has forecast more heavy rains, which could worsen the situation. Rescue teams are navigating challenging conditions to reach those affected. Tourists and locals alike are advised to stay informed about weather updates and travel advisories.
