Heavy rains cause severe flooding in northern India, disrupt traffic on national highway

Severe flooding caused by heavy rains has inundated stretches of a major national highway in northern India’s Uttar Pradesh, bringing vehicular movement to a halt in several areas.

 

The incident took place at the Bareli Mod area in Shahjahanpur district on July 11.

Visuals showed after heavy rain at Bareli Mod, a significant amount of water accumulated, creating challenging conditions for vehicles passing through. Many cars were submerged and stranded, requiring concerted efforts from bystanders to push them out. The scene was chaotic, with people navigating through the flooded area amid the turmoil, highlighting the immediate impact of the flooding on transportation and the local environment.

 

According to reports, several rivers in Uttar Pradesh are overflowing. Approximately 2 to 3 feet of water has flooded parts of the Delhi-Lucknow highway in Shahjahanpur. As a result, a section of the highway has been closed. Vehicles are being diverted. Following the flooding, patients at Shahjahanpur’s Medical College were also shifted.
