Heavy rains cause severe disruptions in western India : waterlogging, traffic jams, and train delays

Heavy rains have caused significant disruptions in western India’s Maharashtra, leading to severe waterlogging, long traffic jams, and disruptions to local train services and flight operations.

The incident took place in Mumbai on July 7.

Visuals showed waist deep water levels on the streets submerging the whole area, cars not being able to ply on road, people taking their two wheelers on foot.

According to reports, the downpours, which included heavy overnight showers, are expected to continue throughout the week.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted moderate to heavy rainfall in Mumbai throughout the day on July 8. Early Monday, heavy rain persisted in the Dindoshi area, exacerbating waterlogging in multiple parts of the city.

The IMD forecasted heavy rain across the state of Maharashtra over the next three to four days. Specifically, the Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada regions are expected to be heavily impacted by the rains from July 8 to July 10, 2024.

Residents and commuters are advised to stay updated with weather reports and plan their travel accordingly to avoid the severe disruptions caused by the ongoing downpours.
