Heavy rainfall in northern India leads to tragic incident at famous temple hill
A severe downpour in the northern India’s Rajasthan triggered dangerous water currents in the area’s waterfalls, leading to the tragic death of a female tourist. Five devotees were swept away, with three rescued and one still missing.
The incident took place at Sundha Mata Hill, Jaswantpura, Jalore district and the video went viral on August 24.
Visuals showed due to continuous heavy rainfall around the Sundha Mata Temple and its surrounding area, the water flow increased drastically. The pathways used by devotees were submerged, creating a flood-like situation. Rushing water cascaded down the hills, turning the normally peaceful temple grounds into a scene of chaos. The stone steps and narrow walkways were slick and treacherous, with water pouring over them. The force of the water was overwhelming, making it nearly impossible for devotees to maintain their footing as the temple and its surroundings were engulfed by the sudden surge.
The Jaswantpura area of Jalore witnessed a devastating incident as heavy rains lashed the Sundha Mata Hill region, causing a sudden surge in waterfall currents. The intense water flow swept away five devotees visiting the sacred site. Rescue teams managed to save three individuals, who sustained injuries and were immediately hospitalized. Unfortunately, a female tourist lost her life, while one person remains missing, with search operations currently ongoing.
Eyewitnesses described the sudden onset of the rains and the dangerous force of the water, which left little time for the devotees to react. Local authorities have issued warnings for people to avoid visiting hilly and waterfall areas during such weather conditions. The incident has cast a shadow over the otherwise serene and revered Sundha Mata site.
