Heavy rainfall causes severe waterlogging at underpass in northern India

The incident took place at the Zakhira underpass in the West Delhi district on July 24.
Visuals showed how waist-deep the water levels have risen to in just a few hours of rainfall in the area making it very difficult for commuters to pass as they got stuck there.
According to reports, the torrential downpour, which began early in the morning, quickly overwhelmed the drainage system, resulting in the underpass becoming submerged.
Motorists and pedestrians faced immense difficulties as vehicles stalled and traffic came to a standstill. Many commuters were forced to find alternate routes, adding to the congestion in other parts of the city.
Local authorities have been alerted, and efforts are underway to pump out the water and restore normal traffic flow. However, the situation highlights the recurring issue of inadequate drainage infrastructure in Delhi, especially during the monsoon season.
Residents and commuters are urged to exercise caution and stay updated on traffic advisories. The authorities have also advised avoiding the Zakhira underpass until the waterlogging is resolved.
