Heavy rain triggers massive landslide at nation highway in northern India
Following heavy rainfall, a massive landslide severely disrupted traffic on national highways in northern India’s Uttarakhand.
The incident occurred at the Badrinath National Highway in Chinka, Chamoli district on August 9.
Visuals showed a dramatic landslide on a dangerous mountain road, with large boulders and debris crashing down the steep slopes, completely blocking the once-clear path with a chaotic pile of rocks and rubble.
According to reports, district police cleared the debris and reopened the vehicle route on Saturday morning. At Kameda, vehicles were stranded on both sides for about 12 hours as officials worked to clear the road. A district official mentioned that 48 pilgrims were transported to Kedarnath.
A landslide in the neighboring Rudraprayag district also occurred near Doliya Devi on the Kedarnath highway.
