Heavy rain transforms Jatashankar temple area into waterfall spot in central India

In central India’s Madhya Pradesh, heavy rainfall turned the renowned Jatashankar Dham, often referred to as the “Kedarnath of Bundelkhand,” into a breathtaking spectacle as natural waterfalls surged to life.

The incident occurred in Chhatarpur district on July 7.

Visuals showed devotees struggling to walk as the flow and level of water was continuously rising, water dripping from everywhere and kids with their parents fully drenched.

According to reports, the downpour caused water to rise nearly 2 feet in the temple courtyard, even reaching the altar inside the main temple. Arvind Agrawal, the president of the Jatashankar Dham Trust, explained that the temple, surrounded by hills on three sides, funnels rainwater into the courtyard and causes nearby waterfalls to overflow.

During this weather event, trust members guided devotees to safe areas and advised them to avoid using the temple’s stairs. Agrawal emphasized the importance of caution during the rainy season, as the area can quickly become hazardous due to the sudden influx of water.

Despite the challenges, the sight of the waterfalls and the temple’s picturesque location have made Jatashankar Dham a focal point of natural beauty during the monsoon season. Visitors are encouraged to enjoy the scenery while staying alert to the potential dangers of heavy rainfall in this hilly region.
