Heavy rain erodes road near railway crossing in northern India

In a recent incident in northern India’s Uttar Pradesh, a road near a railway crossing was completely damaged amidst massive rainfall, hampering commute.

The incident took place near Palia Kalan before Ataria railway crossing of Lakhimpur Kheri district and video went viral on July 11.

Visuals showed the horrific scene of the road completely disappearing and turning into a river, while locals were distressed by the road destruction.

According to reports, the erosion at the Ataria railway crossing in Palia has increased from about 15 meters to over 100 meters in the past two days. Over 150 villages in the district are flooded due to heavy rainfall in Lakhimpur Kheri and water released from the barrage caused by the swollen Sharda, Ghagra, Mohana, and Suheli rivers. Houses are filled with water, and both homes and farmlands are submerged. The shortage of essential commodities is exacerbating the hardships faced by the people.
