Heartwarming tale of cross-species compassion! Monkey displays humanity, feeds a distressed kingfisher chick in India

In a heartwarming moment from southern India’s Tamil Nadu, a monkey showcased a touching act of compassion by feeding a weakened kingfisher chick.

The incident took place in the Chintadripet area of Chennai city on September 17.

Visuals showed the monkey sitting with the fragile bird on its lap, carefully tending to it. The monkey chewed food to soften it before calmly feeding it to the chick. It was later seen holding the bird gently in its arms, providing warmth and care in a rare display of interspecies empathy.

Speaking to Newslions, A. M. V. Sudarson Sah, a Chennai resident known as “Parrot Sudarson” for feeding thousands of parakeets daily, shared that the extraordinary event unfolded on his terrace. He initially mistook the chick for the monkey’s offspring but soon realized the bird had likely fallen from its nest. The monkey had discovered the distressed chick and brought it to Sah’s terrace, where it continued feeding and nurturing the bird while sharing some of the food itself.

For over 15 years, Sah and his wife, Vithya, have been feeding nearly 6,000 parakeets daily, using 60 kg of rice. The couple’s dedication has turned their terrace into a sanctuary for birds, now also attracting birdwatchers from across the city.
