Heartwarming rescue: cobra freed from bottle trap in eastern India
In a recent incident in eastern India’s Odisha a venomous Common Cobra, which was trapped inside an empty milk bottle, was safely rescued
The incident took place in the outskirts of Bhubaneswar district on July 9.
Visuals showed the cobra’s head trapped in the bottle as it struggled to free itself. Later, snake rescuers carefully examined the cobra’s condition, holding it in their hands and slowly and safely applying lubricant to release its head.
According to reports, Dillip Khatei of Jamukoli, near Bhubaneswar, found a cobra with its head stuck in a glass bottle. Bideshi Mohapatra, a volunteer from Snake Helpline tried to free the snake but needed help. Subhendu Mallik, general secretary stated that, “The cobra inserted its head into the bottle finding its prey inside. It killed the mole rat by injecting venom. After swallowing the rodent, its body got swollen. The swollen neck prevented the snake from retracting its head and the narrow rim of the bottle prevented the snake from swallowing the prey. It got stuck in a peculiar situation where it could not swallow the prey beyond its neck region nor leave it”.
