Heard of elephants wreaks havoc in banana fields in southern India
A herd of elephants is causing widespread damage to crops and instilling fear among residents in southern India’s Andhra Pradesh.
The incident took place in the Gijaba and Nandivanavalasa villages of Garugubilli mandal of Parvathipuram Manyam district on May 16.
Visuals showed the herd of elephants, including a calf, passing through the banana fields and forested areas. The elephants moved gently across the field covered by long grass.
Reports indicate that trackers arrived promptly and redirected the elephants towards the Nagavali river bank. However, concerns linger among farmers about potential crop destruction caused by the elephants. They have urged forest officials to take immediate action and relocate the elephant herd away from the affected area.
