A massive explosion occurred in northern India’s Uttar Pradesh, sparking a fire that left 12 people with burn injuries. The incident took place at the Indian Oil Corporation Limited refinery in Mathura district on November 12.
Visuals showed intense flames engulfing the facility, with thick black smoke rising into the sky as the fire rapidly spread across a large area. Concerned locals captured the scene on their phones, worried about the safety of factory workers.
According to reports, fire brigade teams arrived promptly and managed to contain the blaze. All injured individuals were taken to the hospital, and fortunately, no fatalities have been reported.
The refinery had recently resumed operations at its ABU plant following a 40-day shutdown. The explosion is believed to have been caused by a leak, which triggered the fire and injured 12 people, including Production Manager Rajeev. Some critically injured individuals have been referred to hospitals in Delhi, and an investigation into the cause of the explosion is underway.
Among the injured, Harishankar, Irfan, Ajay Sharma, and Rajeev Kumar were initially admitted to City Hospital. Due to their serious conditions, they were later transferred to Apollo Hospital in Delhi, accompanied by family members in an ambulance.
Renu Pathak, Public Relations Officer of Mathura Refinery, stated that a minor explosion took place in the ABU (mother unit) during the refinery’s restart. The situation is now fully under control. She added that two individuals sustained burns covering less than 50% of their bodies, while another two suffered 20% burns. Three have been sent to Apollo, and five remain in the refinery’s in-house hospital, where they are receiving treatment.
