Hazardous collision in southern India: gas lorry and acid tanker crash causes panic and traffic chaos

In the early hours of May 28, a severe accident occurred on a national highway of southern India’s Andhra Pradesh.
The incident took place near the town of Tuni in the Kakinada district on May 27.

A lorry carrying gas cylinders collided with a tanker transporting hydrochloric acid, leading to a hazardous situation that caused widespread panic and significant traffic disruptions. The collision took place in the suburb of Annavaram.
The tanker, en route to the city of Visakhapatnam, was hit from behind by the gas cylinder lorry, resulting in an acid leak. The spillage produced thick smoke and a strong stench, causing distress among local motorists and residents. Many reported burning eyes and feeling ill due to the fumes. Emergency responders, including police and fire personnel, swiftly arrived at the scene. They managed to contain the gas leak and redirected traffic to mitigate further risks.
The incident led to a major traffic blockage, with vehicles backed up for kilometers, causing considerable inconvenience to travelers. Authorities have initiated an investigation into the cause of the collision and have registered a case regarding the incident.
