Location Raipur, Chattisgarh, India. Date: 2023-05-23
Smoke engulfed the coach of a train in central India’s Chattisgarh as passengers.
The incident took place at Raipur junction in Raipur on May 23.
Visuals showed the train employees making efforts to fix a motor on the vehicle. The surroundings were filled with smoke, creating a hazy atmosphere. A wave of panic gripped the railway station in Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh, as smoke began to billow from a coach of the Garib Rath Express heading to Lucknow. Passengers were quickly evacuated from the train as the smoke intensified. Subsequently, the affected coach was detached and the train was allowed to proceed.
The incident took place on Tuesday morning when the train had arrived at Platform No. 6 before its departure to Lucknow. Passengers had already boarded the train. Suddenly, a few passengers in coach 4 noticed smoke spreading and detected a burning plastic odor. The smoke rapidly increased, causing a panic among the passengers. Amid the commotion, the passengers disembarked from the train. The railway staff were informed of the situation and promptly arrived at the scene.
At the time of the incident, the train was still on the platform. During the incident, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) immediately reached the spot, ensuring the safe evacuation of the passengers without any inconvenience. It is believed that if the train had departed and gained momentum, the situation could have been more severe.
Upon reaching the scene, the RPF instructed all passengers to disembark. Simultaneously, efforts were initiated to separate the affected coach. Once the coach was detached, all passengers were shifted to another coach, and the train resumed its journey. However, the incident caused a delay in the train’s schedule.
