Hailstorm forces emergency landing of flight in eastern India, passengers safe

The incident took place at Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar on May 1.
Visuals showed due to a hailstorm, a plane was forced to make an emergency landing. The front part of the aircraft sustained minor damage.
According to reports a scheduled Vistara flight departing from Bhubaneswar to New Delhi encountered unexpected turbulence as it ascended into the skies over Odisha. Within minutes of departure, the aircraft found itself ensnared in a sudden and violent hailstorm, resulting in significant damage to the front nose and windshield.
Biju Patnaik International Airport Director, Prasanna Pradhan, confirmed that the aircraft’s windshield had developed a crack during the onslaught of hail, prompting the flight crew to take immediate action. With the safety of passengers and crew as the paramount concern, the decision was made to execute an emergency landing back at Bhubaneswar’s airport.
Despite the frightening ordeal, all 169 individuals onboard the aircraft were reported to be safe and without injury. The swift response of the flight crew and airport authorities averted any potential disaster, ensuring the well-being of those aboard the distressed flight.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictable nature of weather and the critical role of skilled aviation personnel in navigating such perilous conditions.
