Gruesome murder comes to light from southern India after woman’s dismembered body found in fridge

In a gruesome incident in southern India’s Karnataka, a 29-year-old woman’s body was found cut into several pieces and stuffed inside a fridge.

The incident took place in the Vyalikaval area of Bengaluru city on September 21.

Visuals showed police personnel investigating the scene, while other visuals revealed horrifying image of the woman’s body parts stuffed into the fridge compartments, narrating the brutality of the crime.

According to reports, the body of Mahalakshmi, a 26-year-old woman from Nepal, was discovered dismembered into around thirty-two pieces inside a fridge in her Bengaluru apartment. Her estranged husband, Hemant Das, claimed she was having an extramarital affair and pointed fingers at her lover, Ashraf, as the prime suspect behind the heinous murder. Das, speaking to reporters at Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital mortuary, where her post-mortem was conducted, mentioned that he had last seen her twenty-five days ago when she visited his shop with their daughter.

The crime came to light when neighbors complained of a foul smell, prompting the police to investigate. Upon entering the apartment, they found maggot-infested body parts and launched a detailed probe with the help of forensic experts and a dog squad. Mahalakshmi had been living alone since separating from her husband earlier this year. Her 4-year-old daughter currently lives with Hemant Das.

This brutal crime is not an isolated case, with similar incidents of women’s bodies being dismembered and stored in fridges reported across India. These acts of violence are often linked to alleged cases of “love jihad,” a controversial term used in some circles. International attention has been drawn to such cases, with reports like the one by UK Home Secretary Suella Braverman accusing Pakistani men of targeting vulnerable women in grooming gangs, sparking outrage in Britain.
