Group I aspirants arrested during protest in southern India, demand postponement of exam
Several Group I exam candidates were arrested by the police as they attempted to meet PCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud in southern India’s Telangana. The aspirants are seeking a postponement of the upcoming Group I examination and planned to present their grievances to the Congress leadership.
The incident took place at Gandhi Bhavan, the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) headquarters in Hyderabad district and the video went viral on October 17.
Visuals showed the scene at the protest was filled with tension as the police were actively trying to disperse the gathered Group I aspirants. Students stood determined, but police officers were forcefully moving them away from the site. Those who resisted or were identified as leaders were taken into custody, with officers grabbing them and escorting them to police vehicles. Amid this chaotic interaction between the police and protesters, a crowd of bystanders had gathered nearby, watching the unfolding events. The atmosphere was charged, with the shouts of the protestors, police commands, and the murmurs of the onlookers adding to the intensity of the situation.
According to reports, in a move to express their concerns over the upcoming Group I examination, numerous aspirants organized a “Chalo Gandhi Bhavan” protest to meet the PCC president, Mahesh Kumar Goud. Their main demand was to postpone the Group I exam due to issues they believed required immediate attention.
However, before reaching the State Congress headquarters, many candidates were arrested by the police. Despite this, PCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud intervened, instructing the police to release the arrested candidates. He also provided an appointment for the aspirants to meet him at Gandhi Bhavan later in the afternoon to discuss their grievances.
The aspirants are hoping that Goud will advocate their cause with Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to address their concerns and delay the examination.
Simultaneously, Telangana Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari held a video conference with TGPSC Chairman Mahender Reddy, TGPSC Secretary Navin Mittal, and district Collectors of Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, and Medchal to discuss the situation.
The candidates are determined to pursue their demand, expecting the PCC leadership’s intervention to push for an exam postponement.
