Goods train derails at station in eastern India, causing significant train diversions

In a concerning incident in eastern India’s West Bengal, a goods train derailed, causing the diversion of several trains in the region.

The incident took place at New Maynaguri station in the Alipurduar division of Jalpaiguri district on September 24.

The site’s visitors revealed a disconcerting scene, with several wagons dismantled and collapsed onto the railway tracks. Some wagons were seen partially tilting over the tracks as local authorities closely monitored the situation.

According to reports, the Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of the Northeast Frontier Railway confirmed that five wagons of an empty goods train had derailed at New Maynaguri. The CPRO further stated that while trains have been diverted through alternative routes, overall movement remains unaffected. Senior officials, including the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Alipurduar, rushed to the site to oversee the ongoing restoration work.
