Gas cylinder explosion throws man off bicycle, causing panic in residents

A man filling a gas cylinder on his bicycle was violently thrown several meters away after an explosion.

The incident occurred at Agrasen Puram in the Peelakhar area, within the Itmad-Ud-Daula police station limits of Agra district, Uttar Pradesh, on January 12.

Visuals show the explosion happening while the man was filling the cylinder. The bicycle was shattered into pieces, and people fled the scene in panic.

According to reports, Laxman Singh, a balloon seller originally from Sapu, Hathras, and residing in Mahavir Nagar, was out selling balloons when the explosion occurred. At around 12:10 pm, he parked his bicycle outside Haider Ali’s house in Agrasen Puram and filled the helium gas cylinder with chemicals.

The explosion severely injured Laxman Singh, and the debris from the cylinder, which was blown 10 meters away, injured two others, a mother-in-law and daughter-in-law. The injured were rushed to a private hospital for treatment. The explosion also affected nearby shops and houses, causing chaos in the area.

The blast’s sound was heard several kilometers away, and the walls and doors of many houses shook. MLA Dr Dharampal Singh visited the site and assured the public of treatment for the injured.

The police have conducted a thorough inspection and launched an investigation. Officials believe the explosion may have been caused by a technical fault or accident, though the exact cause remains unclear. Authorities are questioning locals to gather more information.
