Gas cylinder explosion in CNG auto sparks fire in southern India, no casualties reported

A potentially devastating fire accident was narrowly avoided in southern India’s Andhra Pradesh when a gas cylinder exploded in a CNG auto.

The incident took place in Rayachoti area of  Annamayya District on May 21.

Visuals showed a parked auto on the road was engulfed in a fierce fire. People were bringing water from their homes, trying to extinguish the flames. Several vehicles were stuck on the road because of the incident.

The explosion occurred when the vehicle was empty of passengers, resulting in no injuries. The driver, who was outside the auto at the time, escaped unharmed. The fire, which engulfed the auto, was intense, completely gutting the vehicle.

Local firefighters responded swiftly to the scene, working diligently to extinguish the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby areas. Their prompt action ensured that the fire was contained and extinguished quickly, averting further damage.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the explosion to determine any underlying safety issues with the gas cylinder. The incident highlights the importance of regular maintenance and safety checks for CNG vehicles to prevent such dangerous occurrences in the future.
