Frozen pipes in northern India turn into ice dispensers amid extreme cold

Amid the freezing winters, water pipes in northern India have turned into unexpected ice dispensers, highlighting the extreme chill.

The incident took place in the Lahaul and Spiti districts of Himachal Pradesh, with videos of the phenomenon going viral on December 13.

Visuals show a water pipe dispensing ice cubes instead of water, showcasing the severe cold gripping the region. Locals demonstrated the phenomenon by placing their hands under the pipe as if to collect water, only for ice cubes to tumble out instead.

According to reports, traces of snow were recorded in Gondla, a tribal area of Lahaul and Spiti, over the past 24 hours. High-altitude and tribal regions continue to endure intense cold waves, with Tabo being the coldest on Wednesday night, recording a low of -11.3°C. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted similar frigid conditions, with the possibility of severe cold in certain areas over the next 24 hours.
