Fresh snowfall paralyzes highway leaving 350 vehicles stranded

Heavy snowfall has left 350 vehicles stranded and blocked a key highway in northern India, prompting urgent action from authorities to clear the congestion.

The incident took place in Srinagar-Jammu National Highway of Jammu and Kashmir on December 27.

Visuals show officials assisting and guiding stranded vehicles on the snow-covered roads during the early hours, working to clear the congestion.

According to reports, due to severe weather, authorities have suspended traffic on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway. Inspector General of Police (Traffic), Suleman Choudhary, confirmed, “Traffic has been halted at Qazigund due to slippery conditions. Around 350 heavy motor vehicles (HMVs) are stranded between Qazigund and the Nayug Tunnel.”

The IGP explained that small vehicles are being cleared, but no new traffic is being allowed to proceed from Udhampur. “Traffic will resume on Saturday morning, depending on road conditions,” he added. He also advised commuters to avoid traveling on the highway until the weather improves and the roads are cleared.
