Fresh snow transforms India’s roads into slippery skating rinks for cars
The fresh snowfall has turned the region into a serene escape, drawing visitors eager to soak in its enchanting beauty. The valley transforms into a snowy wonderland, offering tourists the perfect winter retreat.
The incident took place in Budgam district in Jammu and Kashmir, northern India on December 8.
Visuals show snow-covered roads bustling with joy as tourists embrace the fresh snowfall. Many were seen clinging to moving car doors, attempting impromptu skiing, while cars spun in circles, gliding over the snowy terrain.
According to reports, Sunday evening witnessed a sharp dip in temperatures. Gurez, Karnah, Sonamarg, Pahalgam, and other mountainous regions received snowfall, including the renowned ski destination, Gulmarg. Officials noted that the snowfall began late in the afternoon, blanketing these areas in white.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had forecast cloudy skies with light rain across parts of Jammu and light snow or rain in Kashmir’s higher altitudes from the evening of December 8 through the morning of December 9. A dry spell is anticipated between December 10 and 11, with isolated snow showers expected in elevated regions by December 12.
Authorities have issued travel advisories for the Gulmarg-Tangmarg route due to icy and slippery conditions. To ensure safety and avoid congestion, only 4×4 vehicles equipped with anti-skid chains and light motor vehicles with no more than 10 seats are permitted.
